Our Local Area

Our local pub, The Bulls Head, is a short walk from Ambro Mill. Breedon Priory Spa has also recently opened and as well as a luxurious day spa and fabulous pampering, you can enjoy The Garden Café which serves food and drink throughout the day.

The 13-mile Cloud Trail – part of the National Cycle Network - is a couple of fields away from Ambro Mill. It runs from Worthington to Derby and as well as cycling it is also suitable for horse riding and walking.

Alton Towers and Drayton Manor are less than an hour’s drive away, but more locally you can explore the National Trust gems of Calke Abbey, Staunton Harold Church and Sudbury Museum of Childhood.

The Ferrers Centre for Arts and Crafts is a short drive from Ambro Mill and offers lots to see including a gallery, artisan bakery and deli, artists’ studios, various gift shops and a very good tea room! You can also enjoy a stroll around the Staunton Harold private estate while you’re here.

If you fancy a mooch around the shops, there are plenty to choose from in Melbourne. There is also a good selection of shops in Castle Donington and Ashby de la Zouch. And if you’re wanting something a bit more ‘high street’, your best bet is probably Derby, Leicester or Nottingham, all of which are approximately 30-minutes away by car.

Fosse Park is just down the M1 at junction 21, which takes about 25 minutes to reach on a good run. Here you can find a good selection of high street shops including Marks & Spencer, Flannels, Primark, River Island, Next, Clarks and Boots.
